Outdoor & Adventure Programme 1

What did you do?: Joint cub & scout camp at Bradfield Park, Bury St Edmunds.
Who did you involve?: Joint event for cubs to meet scouts on camp - our aim was to go back to basics.
What did you get out of it?: We went back to basics as many cubs had not camped before. The cubs learned about building fires, gadgets, backswood cooking, compass game, orienteering and wide game with the scouts.

Cubs loved every bit even though it rained and they enjoyed the wide game with the scouts.

Outdoor & Adventure Programme 2

What did you do?: District camp at Eaton Vale.
This was our first district camp, which was a large camp with our beavers, cubs, scouts and explorers.
The cubs done water activities, shooting, archery and many more fun activities.
Who did you involve?: All of the Southern Norfolk District
What did you get out of it?: Cubs were mixing with other groups. They had a large camp fire. The cubs loved being able to explore the site.

Community Programme 1

What did you do?: We learned about rationing and evacuees. This included a visit to Harleston Museum, a trip to Duxford Air Museum and attending a Rememberance Day parade.
Who did you involve?: Harleston Museum and the cubs grandparents, as the cubs done a report about grandparents in war.
What did you get out of it?: Air activities and Local knowledge badge.

Cubs very excited about cooking a family meal using rations. Cubs were given sweet ration from museum. They done a role play at being evacuees.

Community Programme 2

What did you do?: Sponsor pony from Redwings Horse Sanctuary. Cubs and beavers visited the horse sanctuary and has a hike around the site and stopped for picnis before going home. They learned about cruelty to animals and how the sanctuary and saved so many. They even saw some in the recovery wing.
Who did you involve?: Cubs, beavers, young leaders and Redwings staff.
What did you get out of it?: Learn how horses, pony's and donkeys are looked after and how the sanctuary started. Raised money for the sanctuary. Some cubs gained Friends to Animal badge.

Fit for Life Programme 1

What did you do?: We learned all about keeping fit and done this over 4 weeks. A nurse came to visit the group and they learned how much our heart beats.
We done some warming up exercises followed by some keep fit.
Who did you involve?: Cubs. leaders and a nurse.
What did you get out of it?: We learned how when we are still our hearts beat normally and then the cubs found out what happens after exercises and how their heart beat changed. Also learned about the importance of exercise

Some cubs found this very exciting, whilst others were worn out especially some leaders!

Fit for Life Programme 2

What did you do?: Healthy meal menu for camp and Ready Steady Cook
Who did you involve?: Cubs
What did you get out of it?: They had to choose, plan and shop for the ingredients to make a healthy meal. Each six cooked something different and they all had a try of each others.
Then for Ready Steady Cook each six was given a bag of food and asked to cook it.
The cubs found cooking difficult but enjoyed the activity. They didn't enjoy the washing up though!

Creative Expression Programme 1

What did you do?: Shadow Puppet Show. Each six had a story and the cubs made all the puppets and scenery. They then put on a show for the parents. A good evening was had by all!
Who did you involve?: Cubs, Young Leaders and the parents came to watch the show.
What did you get out of it?: The shyest of cubs could do this as they were hidden from the audience. The puppets were all their own work and were fantastic. The cubs thorughly enjoyed making the puppets, scenery, using the percussion instruments and having their parents stay to watch.

We even had a few sound effects too!

Creative Expression Programme 2

What did you do?: Prayers, stories and readings for a Scouts own "Letters to God".
Who did you involve?: Cubs, Scouts and leaders
What did you get out of it?: They each wrote prayers of feelings. How they felt about camp life, their life etc.

Some of these pieces of work were amazing and the writing was really good. Some found it difficult but still wrote a few lines.

Beliefs & Attitudes Programme 1

What did you do?: For St Georges Day they learnt the St George story, made shields, dragons and designed their own coat of arms. The cubs then took part in a District St Georges Day parade.
Who did you involve?: Cubs, Young leaders.
District parade.
What did you get out of it?: The cubs enjoyed getting messy, making the dragons, shields and coats of arms.

The shields were made in their sixes with the new six names and we are hoping to get these made on to wooden shields so that we can take these to camp with us and put on the camp gateways.

The cubs met others at the district parade.

Beliefs & Attitudes Programme 2

What did you do?: The cubs made passports and we travelled around the world using these and visited different cultures and festivals. they learnt about fair trade and made Gods eyes.
Who did you involve?: Beavers and cubs.
What did you get out of it?: Visited countries and done crafts and cooked food from those countries and learnt about the countries celebrations and festivals eg. Chinese, Diwali and America.
They learnt how some people have lots of things and others have nothing.
The cubs enjoyed tasting all of the different types of food.

Global Programme 1

What did you do?: Recycle, Reuse
Solar Simon came down to cubs and they learned about recycling in our environment and global. The following week they brought in some recycleable rubbish and went to the recycle site to get rid of it and they saw what became of the rubbish and in their sixes designed a recycleable robot.
Who did you involve?: Solar Simon, cubs and young leaders
What did you get out of it?: Learnt how products were reused. Made a recycleable robot. Walked round town to the recycle site and used bins to get rid of their recycable things they brought in.

Learnt why do we have solar panels.

The cubs were very enthusiastic about this and found it very helpful and exciting.

Global Programme 2

What did you do?: Water Aid -
We had water relays where the cubs had a cup of water on their head had to see how much they could get in the measuring jug at the end of the hall! They learnt how far you have to travel to get clean water in England and Africa.

On a large piece of paper we drew a water droplet and around it were all the cubs ideas and thoughts on Water Aid
Who did you involve?: Cubs and young leaders
What did you get out of it?: The cubs learnt how lucky they were with clean water as they could just turn on the tap and it was there.

They also enjoyed having a water evening and brought spare clothes and towels!

Any comments? Did you enjoy the Acorn Award challenge?: The Acorn Award was very good. It made everyone from the youngest cub to the leaders think about things and the environment etc. And their work was amazing and some of the stories brought tears to our eyes as we read them. Well done everyone!
